WATER TREATMENT PLANT UPGRADE

JOHN HOLLAND | KBR - JOINT VENTURE

Melbourne Water, Greenvale
Waterwise, Builtwise.

Melbourne Water identified the need to upgrade the treatment plant for drinking water at Somerton Road, Greenvale. The existing gas chlorite facility provided primary disinfection for the outlet of Greenvale Reservoir. Melbourne Water identified the need to upgrade the plant to provide a safer working environment and cater for development in the northern and north-western growth areas.

The scope of works undertaken by Builtwise Constructions involved the building and installation of the new water treatment plant, with works consisting of a concrete slab with plinths for tanks and spillage bunds, epoxy-coated and polyurea-coated bunds, pre-cast panel walls and structural steel framing with epoxy-coated steel works, Kingspan roofing with a detachable roof for access to the tanks, as well as fire-rated windows. The new plant adds the final treatment to the water (small doses of chlorine) which is then pumped to homes and businesses. The building has been designed and built to meet future growth projections and improve the safe operations of the plant.
